The holidays are a strange amalgamation of fun, excitement and madness. There’s the fun of traveling to see family and friends, but then there’s the madness of airports with their crowds and delays. There’s the joy of connecting with friends and family we don’t always see. And there’s the stress of connecting with family members we don’t necessarily want to see, but they’re at the holiday gathering, so we can’t avoid them. And let’s not even discuss mall shopping, holiday debt and awkward office parties.
Taking time out to nurture personal sanity during this time is paramount to enjoying the season. That can obviously come in a series of ways, from yoga to hiding out in your apartment and refusing to leave for several days. My personal favorite way to stay grounded and stress-free involves vanilla soy candles, a bathtub filled to the brink with steamy warm water and a homemade sugar scrub.
I’m convinced sugar scrubs are the antidote to just about any of life’s stresses. And because they’re so easy to make with ingredients from my kitchen cabinets, I don’t have to fight through holiday traffic to buy a fancy $55 version at a department store. Would a sugar scrub calm your nerves today?
Here’s my super easy, stress busting sugar scrub recipe. You’re welcome.
Mix ½ cup of raw, organic sugar (white, brown or turbinado will work) with ½ cup of your favorite oil (coconut, olive, almond and avocado all work wonderfully). To fancy it up a bit, you can add pure vanilla extract or a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Lavender, jasmine and ylang ylang are all touted as being relaxing.
This wonderfully simply scrub can be used in the shower or the tub and will make your skin as soft as a baby’s bottom. If you would prefer to purchase your sugar scrub, we’ve got you covered. Check out our all natural, lavender sugar scrub.
Take care of yourself and be safe this holiday season!
