3 Tips to a Healthy Jetsetting Complexion

Even though vacations are meant to relax us and revive the soul, airplane travel can wreak havoc on the skin.  With the summer travel season now upon us, it's a good idea to keep the following tips in mind while flying to and from your destination, so that you can emerge from the giant tube in the sky looking refreshed and ready to go.

Believe it or not, the air on a plane is actually drier than most deserts.  The average humidity in an airplane is 15%, opposed to a desert which averages 35%.

1.  Before take off or immediately following, splash (or spritz with a small spray bottle you brought from home) face with water, apply a moisturizer and a petroleum-free lip balm

2.  Repeat with water, moisturizer, and lip balm every hour, or anytime your face or lips feel dry.

3.  A little before landing, wash face, or wipe with a facial wipe.  Apply moisturizer one more time.  Now, to look revitalized and fresh, curl eyelashes, apply mascara, blush and a little tinted lip balm or natural lip gloss.

Bonus Tip:

Drink plenty of water the day before you fly and keep a bottle of water with you on your flight to keep your whole body hydrated.  Sitting on a plane, cramped in a small seat with no wiggle room for hours can cause swelling of the lower extremities and puffiness of the skin.  Salty snacks, caffeinated beverages and alcohol can intensify the effects. By drinking plenty of water, the body will stay hydrated and be able to optimally flush itself, so the rest of the body will thank you when you land on solid ground.
